Context

The Beacon began as a civic public art commission — a permanent installation at the Wangaratta Railway Precinct combining mural, interactive lighting, and a companion app — but the underlying challenge was one of systems design. Working with a local ecologist to identify the region's threatened flora and fauna, the project translated a set of ecological and cultural stories into a coherent visual and digital language: a lighting sequence, an interface, and a mural system all built to work together rather than as separate deliverables. Leading design direction across the installation, I was responsible for the visual identity and the digital layer that let visitors engage with the tower after dark — treating the water tower itself as a screen, and the app as its interface.
